2019 XIDU PhilBook Max 14.1-inch Touch-Screen Laptop Review
2019 XIDU PhilBook Max 14.1″ Touch Laptop
2019 XIDU PhilBook Max is a 14.1-inch sleek and stylish, lightweight and portable 2-in-1 ultrabook laptop with a Full HD touchscreen, an entry level Intel Apollo Lake processor, good size memory and SSD, backlit keyboard and decent connectivity options.
It has an average score of 4.2 out of 5 stars by 19 customers at the moment. The dual core Intel Apollo Lake J3355 CPU runs at speeds between 2 and 2.5GHz and has a Passmark benchmark score of 1194 as a low to mid-range processor and is good for basic daily tasks, like typing up your documents when you’re away from home traveling, checking your emails, browsing the internet and playing entry-level games.
It comes with a 128GB expandable Solid State Drive for adequate storage space at this level and speed in opening files, 6GB LPDDR3 memory for being able to have several browsers and apps at once and Windows 10 Home version operating system with the familiar and brand new features. The Xidu Philbook Max weighs only 3.31 pounds and measures 12.79 x 8.66 x 0.65 inches. It has a space gray aluminum alloy metal body with golden frame, a contracted design with a big screen proportion with only a 4.99mm thick frame on the multi-touch display with 360-degree rotation around the hinge.
The 14.1-inch Full HD touch display has the 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution with good contrast and vivid colors. The built-in Intel HD Graphics 500 card can only run the not so demanding games and the modern games will not run smoothly even at the low settings. It is good enough for basic daily graphics needs of web browsing or video streaming. There is a 2MP webcam for taking still shots and making Skype calls and the quality is OK at this level, but nothing amazing. You can use this laptop in one of the four modes of laptop, tablet, display and tent.
The connectivity options include a mini HDMI output, 2 x USB 3.0 ports, 802.11ac wireless, Bluetooth 4.2, an SSD card slot and a microphone jack. The backlit keyboard has the ideal key distance and uses the US keyboard layout and you’re better off setting it to the US layout with the instructions on the Amazon product page. The LED light inside the keyboard offers preciselighting without any leaking or reflection. And you can type comfortably on this keyboard with an ergonomic design. The average battery life is around 5 hours from its lithium ion battery for things like internet browsing, video playback or word processing.
You can add an m.2 SSD drive on the PhilBook Max as it supports SSD expandability up to 512GB. The 6GB RAM is not upgradeable but should be more than adequate at this processing power and price level of a convertible 2-in-1 laptop. If you need Ethernet connection you need to use the USB port to connect an interface that includes Ethernet and more USB ports. If you want to use a Stylus pen on your laptop you may want to look at the XIDU PhilPad model, as the pen won’t work on this model. The webcam is located at the top of the screen and the two-inch microphone is located at the bottom of the display.
For how much you’re paying, you seem to be getting more features, like a sturdy aluminum alloy body, Full HD touchscreen rather than a regular HD display, different modes around a 360-degree rotating hinge, good connectivity, 128GB SSD, 6GB memory, expandability and more.
