Acer Chromebook Spin 15 Convertible Laptop Pentium N4200, 4GB RAM, 64GB Flash Review
Acer Chromebook Spin 15 Convertible Laptop with Pentium N4200
The latest Acer Spin 15 is a modern convertible Chromebook with a 15.6-inch Full HD touch display with an IPS panel, the quad core Pentium processor, adequate amounts of memory and SSD, Chrome operating system and backlit keyboard.
It has a metal body and a 360-degree rotating flip-and-fold design. The average rating is 4.5 out of 5 stars by 11 people as a popular new release Chromebook. This Amazon Renewed laptop has a 90-day AmazOn Renewed warranty and looks and works like brand new. They are inspected by the Amazon qualified sellers and the only thing different may be the generic packaging and accessories.
The quad core Intel Pentium N4200 processor (2MB cache) runs at 1.1GHz base speed and up to 2.5GHz with the turbo boost function. The Passmark benchmark score is 2037 that puts it in the lower mid-range category of processors for enough power to handle your daily tasks. 4GB LPDDR4 RAM offers adequate multitasking for having some browsers and Google apps on simultaneously.
64GB eMMC Flash storage is better than having 32GB that is available in other similar laptops and will give you a bit of storage space. You can hook up an external drive or rely on Cloud storage and access your files on the go wherever you have internet access. Chrome operating system has an easy to use interface that is similar to using the Google Chrome browser, has the automatic updates in the background without you doing anything and comes with many online and offline apps.
The 15.6-inch Full HD LED-backlit touch display has the IPS panel with 178-degree viewing angle. The Intel HD 505 graphics is adequate for basic daily tasks and Chrome games, but definitely not the demanding Windows games. Connectivity options include the 802.11acwireless, Bluetooth 4.2, 2 x USB 3.0 ports, 2 x USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 ports, a Micro SD Card Reader and a headphone jack. There is no optical drive and you can connect one via one of the USB ports or wirelessly via Bluetooth.
You can open your Microsoft Office files with the Google Docs or Quick Office Editor that are available free of charge. It has the 3-cell lithium polymer battery that should last about 6-7 hours in practice. Touch function on the screen is responsive and you can use it with the keyboard without needing to connect a mouse even if you always work with a mouse. It is a very good quality display with decent brightness and vibrant colors. Overall the value for money is pretty good with this Chromebook.
