Lenovo IdeaPad 1 14″ HD Laptop with Celeron N4020, 81VU0079US Review
Lenovo IdeaPad 1 14″ HD Laptop with Celeron N4020
Ice blue Lenovo IdeaPad 1 14 (81VU0079US) is an entry level, low cost compact laptop with a 14-inch high definition non-touch screen, Intel Celeron N4020 processor, 64GB eMMC flash Solid State Drive, 4GB DDR4 memory, Windows 10 operating system in S mode and Intel UHD 600 graphics card. It is not for power users or for gaming but for basic tasks like word processing, spreadsheets, browsing the internet and light multitasking.
The quarter 1 of 2020 release dual core entry level Intel Celeron N4020 processor (2 cores, 2 threads) works at the speeds between 1.1GHz and 2.8GHz with the turbo boost function. It has an average CPU Passmark benchmark score of 1623 at the moment and a typical TDP- Thermal Design Power of 6 watts. 64 GB M.2 PCIe SSD storage is not much as a local storage space as almost half of it is occupied by the Windows OS. But you have the much higher speed for opening your files and starting system quickly. 4GB DDR4 memory is also the minimum amount any computer will need these days but will do the job for a cheap, entry level laptop.
14-inch high definition laptop framed by the narrow bezels has the 1366 x 768 pixel resolution with acceptable level colors, good contrast and low cost TN panel, not IPS. You don’t have the very large viewing angles of an IPS panel and the resolution and the brightness are not the best. But you can browse the internet, stream and watch videos and play simple games comfortably. You have the good quality sound with the Dolby Audio through the integrated stereo speakers. Intel UHD 600 graphics card offers similar performance to the older Intel HD 500 Apollo Lake and it is adequate for one’s daily graphics needs like playing the older, less demanding games without dramas.
It has a built-in 300p webcam with 640×480 sensor on the top bezel with the dual array microphones for your live video chats or still photos. But it is not very good quality and will be just enough for basic use. Connectivity options include 802.11ac wireless, Bluetooth 4.1, an HDMI output, 2 x USB 3.1 Gen 12 (Type-A) ports, a microSD Card Reader, a headphone microphone combo and a power jack. There is no Optical DVD Drive if you’ll need it, but you can get one cheaply and connect it via Bluetooth or a USB port. The keyboard is not backlit but quite comfortable to type on with the decent key travel and a large touchpad.
Lenovo Ideapad 1 14 is lightweight and slim, weighing a bit more than 3 pounds and 0.7″ thick- measures 12.88 x 9.25 x 0.7 inches. This laptop is sturdy and durable with a decent construction has a premium look but is made of plastic, not metal, looks good in a nice ice blue case. and offers long battery life of up to 8 hours from its lithium polymer battery for when you’re out and about. You can easily travel with it and use it at different locations. It would work well for travelers with its compact and portable design. You’ll get the Microsoft Office 365 for a year free of charge.
The negative reviews online are mainly by people that do not realize this is a budget laptop. Lenovo tried hard to cut on certain costs and come up with a functional laptop. 4GB memory is soldered onto the motherboard and you can’t upgrade it. If you intend to run a few apps and browsers simultaneously the system will lag or freeze. But it works very quietly as it is cooled passively without fans, which is great. 64GB eMMC storage is also not upgradeable but you can use the microSD expansion slot for increasing the storage. You have about 33GB left from Windows operating system. It is an affordable laptop that offers good performance for your daily tasks with the modern Celeron processor and the speed of eMMC flash storage. You can use this reliable system for work, study or entertainment purposes, stream videos, surf the net, chat with your friends and family on Skype and complete your office tasks.
