Dell Latitude 7480 14″ FHD Touchscreen Business Ultrabook, i7-7600U, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD Review
Dell Latitude 7480 14″ FHD Touchscreen Laptop
Dell Latitude 7480 is a 14-inch touchscreen “Business Class 7000 series” laptop with the high end specs and features like the very high resolution QHD touch display, slim design and a durable construction, Intel i7 7600U processor, 8GB memory, large 512GB SSD storage, good connectivity ports like the Thunderbolt 3 and Windows 10 Pro version.
The Quarter 1 of 2017 release seventh generation dual core Intel i7-7600U processor at 2.8GHz base speed that goes up to 3.9GHz with the turbo boost function. The Passmark benchmark score is 5108 and the typical Thermal Design Power is 15 watts on this ultra low voltage processor that offers mid-range to advanced performance levels. It performs better overall than the previous version Intel i7-6500U processor that runs at 2.5 to 3.1 Ghz speeds. That means, the i7-7600U is (at the time of announcement in beginning of 2017) the fastest dual core processor for laptops.
8GB DDR4 RAM is not a very large amount of memory, but will be more than sufficient for most computer users. A small percentage of computer users that deal with advanced tasks and extreme multitasking needs can complain having 8GB. 512GB M.2 Solid State Drive offers generous amount of local storage and is significantly faster than the regular SATA hard drive (super fast loading times). This SSD will also help save the battery life on the laptop. Windows 10 Pro x64 is a fresh install on this machine without any bloatware that you need to uninstall.
14″ high resolution QHD LED-backlit touchscreen has the 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution for better quality, clearer image than a Full HD display. There is no DVD Optical Drive but good amount of connectivity options including the 802.11ac wireless, Bluetooth 4.2, Gigabit Ethernet at 10/100/1000 Mbps, 3 x USB 3.0 ports, Thunderbolt 3 USB C port that allows for future expansion, a MicroSD Card Reader, an HDMI output for connecting to projectors or TVs. Intel HD Graphics 520 with a video card benchmark score of 936, is similar in performance to the dedicated NVIDIA 920M GPU as long as there is a fast dual channel DDR4 memory at 2133MHz.
You can play some of the modern, not so demanding games like the Farming Simulator 17 at lower settings and resolutions. This is a portable business laptop, not a gaming power horse, so the integrated GPU should not be much of a concern. It works perfectly fine for the daily multimedia tasks. The performance is sufficient for demanding tasks (except some games that may need four real cores). Dell Latitude 7480 is a good value refurbished machine overall at a significantly reduced price than the brand new for what you’re getting in terms of technical specs, design and build quality. This laptop would be ideal for business travelers that move around a lot, to meet with their clients etc. (slim and compact chassis and longer battery life).
