Osprey Packs Farpoint 55 Travel Backpack Review
Osprey Packs Farpoint 55 Travel Backpack
Osprey Farpoint 55 is a modern, sturdy, durable and functional 55-liter capacity unisex backpack made of 420D Nylon Pack Cloth and 210 x 330D Nylon Shadow box. It is rated 4.7 out of 5 stars by 336 customers, showing a great level of customer satisfaction. It is offered in two colors of jasper red and volcanic grey and two sizes (M/L and S/M), whichever you fancy or suits your needs.
You can detach the front zip and clip removable daypack easily by unzipping it. The daypack is not very big, but big enough for a few items you may want to carry around for the day, and even your tablet or small laptop. It has the adjustable sternum strap with rescue whistle, compression straps inside and zip-away suspension with panel stow slot. This suspension stows away under a zipped panel for a sleek look.
The LightWire frame suspension takes the weight off the harness and moves it to the hip belt (less chafing under load). It is a robust and durable bag that can carry up to 55 pounds of weight. And you can fit in your boots, jackets, camera and sweater in the main part if you’re going away for the weekend. You can use it as a cabin bag that you can take with you into the plane even though it is not quite the carry-on bag size.
Osprey Farpoint 55 is offered in two sizes of Small/Medium with 52L and Medium/Large with 55L capacities. The smaller one weighs 3.75 pounds and measures 24 x 13 x 12 inches. The larger one weighs 3.9 pounds and measures 25 x 13 x 12 inches. It doesn’t meet the cabin bag dimensions, but you won’t really be forced to check it in prior to your flight even when flying with budget airlines as it is just a backpack. The small/medium model fits in the most overhead bins while the medium/large may not in small commuter jets.
It is very well padded and comfortable and the weight is centered nicely and distributed through the hip. The back panel has the mesh that allows better ventilation. You’ll find a mesh pocket inside for your smaller items and you may unzip the sliders to get into the main section. It can look a bit large with the daypack attached, so you may want to remove and wear the daypack and carry the backpack in your hand, tucking in the bits and pieces when boarding the plane. It is a good idea to put the daypack under the seat in front of you.
There is no gender information on the product page and would be suitable for both males and females. It is not built for either sex and both can use it fine. You’ll have more pocket space if you pick the larger bag, but not necessarily more space in the main section. It is designed as a travel backpack and not much as a hiking bag that happens to have more support and water bottle pocket etc. The fabric used on this bag is not water-proof but can handle light rain and will not show marks. These bags are offered with their special All Mighty warranty and they’ll repair any defect or damage on the bag for whatever reason it may be.
