Dell Inspiron i5379 is a 5000 series 13.3″ 2-in-1 business and travel laptop and tablet with a FHD touch display, a quad core Intel i7 processor, generous amounts of SSD storage and memory, backlit keyboard, decent connectivity and other user-friendly features.
This is an upgraded system with more modern configurations and features and is tested and inspected by the manufacturer. The eighth generation quad-core ultra low voltage Intel i7-8550U processor (8MB cache) at 1.8GHz speed up to 4GHz with turbo boost. It runs four cores and eight threads in parallel and has a benchmark score of 8292 as a high end processor. The typical TDP- Thermal Design Power is 15 watts and this will help with the longer battery life.
16GB DDR4 RAM memory at 2133MHz is plenty of memory with heaps of multitasking capacity to run a few apps, programs and browsers simultaneously. 256GB Solid State Drive is great for fast opening of files, overall snappy performance and good enough storage. If you need extra space there is always Cloud storage wherever you have internet access. Operating system is the latest Windows 10 Home 64-bit with the older familiar features and the new Cortana Personal Assistant, Edge Browser and more.
Dell Inspiron i5379 weighs 2.65 pounds and measures 12.76 x 8.85 x 0.8 inches- is very lightweight and portable to use when you’re out and about. Connectivity options include the 802.11ac wireless, Bluetooth 4.2, HDMI V1.4a output, 2 x USB 3.1 ports one of which with power charge, a USB 2.0 port, BD-R Optical Drive, 3-in-1 Media Card Reader SD/SDHC/SDXC Headphone output and Microphone input combo. The battery life of its 3-Cell 42Whr lithium polymer battery is up to 10 hours in theory with the light stuff.
The 13.3-inch Truelife LED-backlit touchscreen has the Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, IPS panel with 178-degree viewing angles horizontally and vertically and 10-finger multi-touch functionality. Intel UHD 620 is the built-in graphics card on this CPU and with a videocard benchmark socre of 1058 it is good enough for basic gaming and all the daily multimedia tasks- internet, videos, photos etc. In terms of performance it is positioned somewhere between NVIDIA 910M and 920M.
Dell Inspiron has a 360-degree rotating hinge that lets you use the computer in four modes of laptop, tablet, stand and tent. You can expect up to 40% more performance and productivity from this 8th gen Intel i7 than the previous generation processors. Sound quality is quite good- studio quality with the Waves MaxxAudio Pro and you’ll hear immersive sound with improved bass, more volume and clearer highs.
There is a good quality 720p HD webcam with the integrated widescreen for taking still photos and chatting live on Skype. The webcam has the double digital microphones. The 5000 Series Dell Inspiron is a fast, powerful, reliable and flexible laptop with modern user-friendly features, that is offered at a reasonable price. The bottom can get a little hot and the CPU fan can be a little noisy at times. But other than that there is not much wrong with it and pros outweigh the small cons. Overall it offers very decent value for the dollar.
