Lenovo Flex 3 11.6″ HD Touchscreen 2-in-1 Chromebook with MediaTek MT8173C Review
Lenovo Flex 3 11.6″ HD Touchscreen 2-in-1 Chromebook
The latest release Lenovo Flex 3 is a 2-in-1 Chromebook with a 360-degree rotating flip-and-fold 11.6-inch high definition touch display, quad core MediaTek MT8173C processor, 32GB eMMC flash storage & 128GB MicroSD, 4GB memory, Chrome operating system, AllyFlex mousepad (Google Classroom), good connectivity including USB-C port, HDMI, Bluetooth and a HD webcam.
The quad core ultra low voltage MediaTek MT8173C processor (4 cores, 4 threads) has a base speed of 1.6GHz that moves up to 2.0GHz with the turbo boost function. With the ARM Cortex architecture it offers decent entry-level performance with good multitasking, that is sufficient for the daily use of Chromebook. 4GB LPDDR3 high-bandwidth memory lets you run a few browser tabs and applications at the same time and offers good multitasking.
32GB eMMC flash memory is not much in terms of storage space but you’re also getting a portable 128GB micro SD card with your purchase that supports HD video playback and fast boot ups. And you can use Cloud storage wherever and whenever you have internet access. It has the 3-cell lithium ion polymer battery and the typical TDP on the processor is very low and you can expect up to 8 hours of battery life. Connectivity options include a USB 3.1 Type C port, a USB 3.1 Type A port, an HDMI output, a Media Card Reader, a microphone headphone combo, Bluetooth and 802.11ac wireless.
Platinum grey Lenovo Flex 3 weighs 2.64 pounds and measures 11.5 x 8.48 x 0.77 inches. With the 360-degree rotating flip and fold design it can be used in different modes of laptop, tent, stand and tablet modes for your different needs. Chrome operating system boots up very quickly, updates itself automatically in the background and you don’t need to do anything for security and other system updates. It feels very much like using the Chrome browser and if you’re like me and the majority of computer users that spend their time on the internet, a Chromebook like this one may work very well for you.
11.6-inch LED-backlit HD touch display with IPS panel and CineCrystal glossy screen technology supports 10-point multitouch. With the 1366 x 768 pixel resolution the picture quality is more than adequate, with the vivid colors on your videos and photos. It is not going to be as clear or vibrant as a Full HD screen but bear in mind that this is only an 11.6-inch display and pixel density -PPI of 135 is not too bad at all. For playing the Chrome games you won’t need a high end dedicated graphics card and the built-in PowerVR GX6250 will be adequate. The sound quality is quite good like a 3D immersive experience with the Dolby Audio and through the 2 x 2 watt stereo speakers. Overall you’re getting a decent convertible Chromebook with a touchscreen at an affordable price.
