2021 model Acer Chromebook 315 is a sleek and modern laptop with a large 15.6-inch HD display and the entry level technical specifications of Intel Celeron N4000 processor, 32GB eMMC flash storage & TiTac 32GB MicroSD Card, 4GB LPDDR4 memory, HD webcam, Chrome operating system and decent connectivity options including 2 x USB Type C ports.
The quarter two of 2018 release dual core Intel Celeron N4000 is an ultra low voltage processor (2 cores, 2 threads) that works at the speeds between 1.1GHz to 2.4GHz with the turbo boost function. The typical TDP- Thermal Design Power is 6 watts for an impressive battery performance of up to 12.50 hours from the 3-cell lithium ion battery at the reduced light settings and for tasks like video watching or internet browsing. The average CPU Passmark benchmark score is 1446 for handling your daily work and entertainment tasks and basic multitasking power.
4GB LPDDR4 RAM is the minimum any computer should have but works well with this Chromebook as long as you don’t have too many browsers and apps open at the same time. 32GB eMMC flash storage is very small in size but offers speed in better boot-up times and file opening as well as supporting HD video playback and streamlined data management. Chrome users with low local storage available to them tend to rely on Cloud storage wherever and whenever they have internet access. And you can also save your files on an external storage. Chrome operating system interface feels like using Google Chrome browser, comes with the online and offline Google apps, starts up in just seconds and has the built-in virus protection with the auto updates in the background.
15.6” ComfyView HD anti-glare energy-efficient LED-backlit non-touch screen has the 1366 x 768 pixel resolution with decent clarity and vivid colors. The screen quality is less than what you’d get with a Full HD display but the overall performance is above average and will do just fine at this low price point. Intel UHD 600 is the built-in graphics card that comes with the Celeron N4000 and they share the 4GB memory available. The performance level is similar to the Intel HD 500 (Apollo Lake) and you can play the Chrome games, browse the internet, edit photos, watch and stream videos.
There is no Optical DVD Drive on this compact machine and you could certainly purchase one cheaply if you need it and connect it via Bluetooth or USB. For connectivity, you have the 802.11ac wireless, Bluetooth, 2 x USB 3.0 Type-A ports, 2 x USB 3.1 Type-C ports (up to 5 Gbps), a headphone-out/microphone-in combo jack and a memory card reader. You’ll get a TiTac 32GB SD Card when you buy this Chromebook. There is no HDMI output but you could get an adopter for HDMI and Ethernet- wired internet access. USB-C supports DisplayPort over USB-C and charging 5V; 3A and DC-in port 5, 9, 15 or 20 V; 45 W.
2021 model silver Acer Chromebook 315 weighs 4.19 pounds and measures 14.4 x 9.9 x 0.8 inches- is slim, and lightweight for a 15.6-inch machine. It has a standard keyboard with good key travel and you can type comfortably and accurately. The sound quality is quite good for this price level and you’ll enjoy the music and videos with the 3D audio through the two stereo speakers. You can chat with your friends and family or teleconference for work with the built-in high definition webcam with microphone. It has a fan-less design and works very quietly. You can use one of the 6 Adobe Android apps that are free of charge and optimized for Chromebook.
